RESULTS
Kai set out to modernize how Dakar moves. Five years later, the platform we built is still doing exactly that — in production, every day.
5 years in production and counting
The passenger and driver apps (KAI ñu dem and KAI dawal) launched in Dakar and remain in active development today — five years of continuous updates and counting. This is a living transport service, not a demo.
10K+ downloads on Google Play
The passenger app has passed 10,000 installs on Google Play, with the driver app powering the fleet side of the operation across Senegal's taxi market.
Backed by Toyota's Mobility 54
Kai (operated by YEEG SAS) is a partner of Mobility 54 — the corporate venture fund of Toyota Tsusho and CFAO — and launched with a Toyota fleet supplied through CFAO Senegal, closing a funding round along the way.
Engineered for the real market
The apps run smoothly on older Android phones with minimal battery drain, and payments work the way Senegal pays: mobile money, cards, prepaid wallet, and cash.

Development
Understanding Needs
We started by diving deep into the client's vision and the African taxi market. Detailed research and surveys with drivers and passengers helped us pinpoint their specific needs and challenges.
Agile Development
Using Swift and Kotlin, we built the app for both iOS and Android with an agile approach. We reviewed and refined the design, incorporating a redesign later in the process. Our smart architecture and flexible code allowed us to update the entire user interface without disrupting core functionality. We also developed the backend and implemented auto-scaling with the help of our DevOps team, ensuring smooth performance. Thorough testing was conducted to make sure everything worked perfectly.
Deployment and Support
After deployment, our focus shifted to ongoing support. We ensured the app continued to perform efficiently and addressed any issues promptly, maintaining high performance and reliability.
