Our goal with Relaxo was to create a relaxation app that goes beyond a simple meditation library, offering a complete platform for stress reduction, mindfulness, and better sleep. We wanted to give users access to world-class instructors and a journey toward inner peace. We faced some big challenges along the way. We started with a range of audio meditations from top instructors, allowing users to choose by teacher or explore themed collections like sleep aids. The main challenge was syncing background music with meditation tracks, giving users the option to listen to just the meditation, just the music, or both. Getting this right was tough, but we aimed to provide a smooth, user-friendly experience. Then, halfway through development, we decided to add video meditations. We tackled this challenge and expanded Relaxo into a full-featured tool for well-being.

• Nature Sounds and Relaxing Music

  Users can unwind with a curated selection of high-quality audio tracks. Customizable soundscapes, including nature sounds, ambient noises, and relaxing music, help create the perfect environment for relaxation and sleep.

• Guided Meditation Sessions

  The app offers a rich library of guided meditations led by top instructors. Whether users need stress relief, relaxation, or better sleep, there’s a session for them. They can choose from various lengths and themes to match their schedules and preferences.

• Personalized Recommendations

  Relaxo learns from user feedback and usage patterns to offer tailored suggestions. Personalized relaxation exercises, meditation sessions, and sleep aids are provided. Daily reminders and notifications help users stay on track with their wellness goals.

• Gamification & Progress Tracking

  Users can stay motivated with visual insights into their sleep patterns, stress levels, and meditation practices. Tracking progress and celebrating their journey towards better well-being is made easy.

• Infrastructure

  The entire system runs on AWS, providing scalable and reliable infrastructure. Our AI-based tools operate on the server-side, utilizing device hardware to enhance performance and user experience. We've implemented a multi-module architecture to keep the app scalable and flexible, supporting a range of features in one place.

• Mobile Development

  Relaxo is built using iOS Swift and Android Kotlin, ensuring smooth and responsive mobile experiences. The latest version is available on the App Store and Google Play.

• Backend and Web

  We implemented a robust backend system developed with Node.js to deliver personalized experiences for users and powerful tools for administrators. This includes a flexible CMS/CRM for content management, user engagement, and business growth. Features like uploading, previewing, and scheduling content are based on user engagement data and feedback. Additionally, a scalable Content Delivery Network analyzes usage patterns to optimize content and marketing strategies.

• Advanced Audio

  e app integrates advanced audio features such as synchronized meditation guidance, customizable background soundscapes, dynamic audio mixing, spatial audio, and 3D sound. We optimized the earphone experience and included optional binaural beats or isochronic tones to enhance relaxation or sleep by stimulating brainwave activity.

• HLS Video Streaming

  We incorporated HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) to provide users with a diverse range of high-quality video content. This ensures adaptive bitrate streaming and seamless playback with minimal buffering. User engagement is boosted through interactive features like playback controls, progress tracking, and bookmarking options. The app supports multi-device compatibility, enhancing the overall relaxation experience.

We developed the Relaxo app, integrating advanced audio and video technologies to create an unmatched relaxation experience. The project excelled due to features like synchronized audio, customizable soundscapes, and high-quality video streaming within a user-friendly interface. Our main challenges included synchronizing background music with meditation audio and adding video meditations. By employing a scalable multi-module architecture, we ensured exceptional performance and flexibility. Our efforts were recognized on a grand stage: we participated in the Slush conference, where Relaxo secured a $350K commitment from VS Fund. This achievement was further amplified as Relaxo was listed among the Top 100 Startups of 2021.
